Westworld is a 1973 film about a theme park populated by realistic humanoid robots. The film was written and directed by Michael Chrichton, creator of such other science-fiction work as Jurassic Park and Sphere. The plot concerns a futuristic theme park named Delos, which is divided into "WesternWorld," "MedievalWorld," and "RomanWorld." These parks are staffed almost entirely by robots, created to serve every whim of the vacationers. While never stated explicitly, the prime uses of these robots are to provide guests with sex upon request, and to provide adversaries to murder and destroy.

There are several female robots in the film. Many have become favourites among the ASFR community.

Legacy

Westworld was a financial success, and the franchise was branched out into several other projects. A film sequel, Futureworld, followed in 1976. Yul Brynner returned to his gunslinger role, despite being "killed off" in the first movie. Many of the concepts from the first movie were expanded upon, and the number of fembot-related effects were increased, but the film was not as successful as its predecessor in either commercial or critical fronts.

Beyond Westworld continued the franchise on television in 1980. The results were poor, and the show was canceled after only three episodes had aired.

In 2014, it was announced HBO would be airing a reboot of Westworld, starting in 2015. It will star Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford and will be produced by J.J. Abrams.
