Futureworld is a 1976 American science fiction thriller film directed by Richard T. Heffron and a sequel to the 1973 movie Westworld.

Presentation

The film follows a newly-reopened Delos in 1985, two years after the events of Westworld, with considerable improvements having been made for the security of the guests. Four settings are available to the guests: Spaworld, Medievalworld, Romanworld and Futureworld. As before, guests may indulge in any adventure with the android population of the park, including sexual encounters and simulated fights. It is eventually revealed that Delos is cloning visitors, especially journalists and head of states, to ensure that policy and public perception towards the park remains durably favorable.

A TV series that ignored the 1976 movie and served as a direct sequel to 1973's Westworld, Beyond Westworld, was broadcast in 1980 but was cancelled after airing three episodes out of five produced. In 2016, a TV series also named Westworld began to air, with 26 episodes produced and an ongoing third season as of April 2020.

Fembot models

References are made to two distinct models of robots in the film, though more types are presumed to exist.

  • 500s - Basic models that interact with the guests in a non-intimate way.
  • 700s - The highly advanced "technician" series of robots. A few female 700s can be seen in brief scenes.

Other types are the "sex models" which offer their services to the guests, and replicant type androids that are indistinguishable from humans. All models are more technologically advanced than the robots of Westworld.
